Melasmas are brownish hyperpigmentation disorders in the areas of the face. Usually (forehead, nose, chin, upperlip, cheeks, neck). The hyperpigmentation spots or patches (melasma) can occur even without pregnancy. It is however known that hormonal imbalances, the anti-baby pill and pregnancy can play a role. The hyperpigmentary discolorations can vanish after the noted reasons but can in many cases stay and cause cosmetic disfigurement.
There are multiple causative factors of melasma such as
- genetic disposition
- hormonal factors
- sun exposition
- solarium
These can be removed using a combination of laser and chemical peeling treatments.
